Honestly, nothing good comes from the streets after those lights come on. Like, it’s a bad place sometimes, and people run around.

I had a good friend of mine, a few weeks ago die, got shot. He was out there, one o’clock at night doing nothing, but still out there, and that’s what happened.

And it’s hard to see other people do that or have that happen to them. I know a few days ago another kid got shot and died. And it’s just a horrible thing, and… I couldn’t… You know, I know if I got shot or if I got hurt in the street at night… I don’t want to be in that position where I leave my family—my parents, my brothers, my siblings--for a reason that could have been stopped, you know? I don’t want my brother to say yeah my brother died, he got shot. Like, I wouldn’t... I would hate to hear that come out of his mouth.

As told to The Recollective at 4th and 1 Football Camp.
