  • ... make lemonade!

So things didn't quite go according to plan.
The Greek grandparents came to visit and they saw next to nothing of the kids, of us, of the region we are living in. I felt sorry for them.
They thought they were coming to help their son and grandchildren, while I was travelling on business. But then my training courses got cancelled, so I stayed home.

The children went back to school, my husband went to work, while I stayed at home, hunched up over my laptop. I tried to work in spite of the TV they switched on for Greek news. I tried to ignore the aroma of the Greek coffee. I tried not to hear nor understand too much of the mutterings in Greek about the way I raise my children (and my voice). I tried to sound professional, calm and collected on teleconferences, whilst in the background I could hear chaos, squeals and temperature rising.

I tried not to feel too sorry for myself.

And, after they left, I looked at the lemons they had brought all the way from their garden in Evvia, those golden harbingers of a different climate and temperament. So many of them!

I may have to make lemonade.
