  • "Do you think we're alone in the universe?"

"Well, if it is just us, it seems like a mighty big waste of space."

Jody Foster and David Morse in the film Contact

Here on this tiny planet, we are creatures of infinite variety surrounded by a world steeped in every color imaginable. Our oceans continue to amaze us with their diversity. Our jungles and rain forests yield new forms of life almost daily. And in our imagination, we have discovered infinite depths without end, wells of the soul containing the brightest and darkest parts of our selves.

In the past fifty or so years, we have blazed beyond the wildest imaginings of science fiction into a realm where there are no boundaries, only the minuscule particles of the imagination we have not noticed yet. Our children's children will inherit a world so profoundly different than ours that to attempt to describe it would be like explaining the passion of Vivaldi to a deaf, mute, and blind chimpanzee.

And yet, for all our advances and successes, we have yet to gain the understanding necessary to stop our senseless and unjustifiable talent for killing one another.

God created man in his image and set him on this planet to learn. I sure hope He didn't put all his eggs in one basket.
