  • Boredom Made Easy:

A Prepared-Piano Lecture Honoring Marcel Duchamp, Cigar Salesman
  • "Les outils qui ne sont pas bons exigent plus de compétence."

    - Marcel Duchamp
  • There are lots of ways of regarding boredom
    but...

    The moment boredom becomes interesting
    It is spoilt. Over-ripe fruit.
    The moment boredom becomes interesting
It’s tricky to make it boring again. A baby birthed.

Crying over the loss of boredom is fine
Even if the tears are happy ones
Even if the tears are sad
Crying over the loss of boredom
Is probably the wisest thing to do.
  • Think of a blank page,
Think of a song without notes,
Think of anything made of nothing,
    Think of oatmeal in slow motion;

When you think of these things,
    You are thinking of boredom.
  • Still, thinking of boredom is not boring
And so thinking of boredom is clever
    And boredom is spoilt again.
  • In some places, boredom is considered a luxury
And people will spend lots of money looking for it
In some of these same places
Some people regret they cannot afford it
And more than admire those they think can.

In some places, boredom is just boring
And you can’t give it away.
  • If a person says they are never bored
It is because they are clever,
    Not because they’re honest.

If a person says they are never bored,
    The saying goes,
    You shouldn’t trust them
    (On important matters, at least).

    Chasing away boredom is like
    Chasing away your own feet,
    The saying goes.
  • This is a story that happened:
    One man yelled to another
    “Get off of my lawn!”
    The other man replied,
“But you don’t have a lawn.”

    And the first man said,
    “That's because
    you have no imagination!”
  • Boredom has no beginning
    And no end
This fact can make one laugh with happy-ness
This fact can make one cry with misery-ness
    Or
This fact can just be boring.

All the beginnings and all the ends,
    Each miracle of boredom is:

    An over-ripe fruit
    A baby birthed
    A yellowed moth
A boat with a hole in the bottom
