  • She's been talking about this party for at least, six months. How she wanted it. And how she didn't. But not really with any specifics. She just always talked a lot about togetherness and how she wanted everyone to feel.
It all came together and I don't know who was happier, her looking right up in the center of it or me watching it all unfold from the side lines. I remember the insignificant details the most. Things like how the fog looked surrounding her and her friends as they danced or the colored light brushing their hair as they jumped around. I remember what their laughs and screams sounded like as I watched them take photos on their phones and quickly upload them.
Lexi remembers the much more meaningful moments. The words they spoke to each other and what everything looked like so up close. She remembers all of the tangible things. Things and stories that they'll all only realize much later in life were as important as they were.

And out of all of the insignificant moments that I recorded and stole, my favorite was when Lexi asked me if she could just throw the used sparklers on the ground just outside of the deck and I told her sure. And I asked her how things were going and if everything was ok. She looked up at me and said, "Mom, yes. This is the best party. Ever."
