  • I found some dark, hidden places today, in the city I have grown up in.

We started at anonymous square buildings on the freeway, with blacked-out windows and security cameras. We continued on to a "bookstore' and then to a series of cantinas with buildings out back, filled with trap doors where girls could be hidden, all surrounded by high fences. I walked through a recently-closed club where 84 women were rescued - saw the condom wrappers, and gloves, and other sex paraphernalia still littering the ground. On one side of the room was a mural of the crucifixion, on the other of the solar system.

The girl who escaped and brought the whole thing down was 14 years old.

What will it look like when justice comes to the city? What will happen to the promoters, the procurers, the purchasers? Who will walk this road with these girls, when the boards come down and the light comes in?
