  • When we spoke earlier she'd said, "I'm just drinking wine and enjoying shabbat and practicing the melodica." Sounded like a great time to me, so I went over and drank wine and enjoyed shabbat while Jacky played the melodica.

    "I've been trying to avoid screens." She meant on Fridays when electricity is considered, by some, to be a melakhot, a kind of work, something unnecessary. Or maybe she meant in general. We talked about the internet, about storytelling, and about the passing of time.

    I returned home and thought about adopting this tradition. A night without screens. The idea made me wonder: in what other spaces do I consume and produce with such address?
