  • My oldest son nursed until he was in his seventh year. My 5 year old is still nursing. It's not all the time, but it's significant. Every morning, most nights, and the occasional times in between when he needs that extra comfort and snuggle time with me.

Every once in a while I will read a story about a mother who is "still" nursing her older child. I always wonder what motive they have for sharing their story. I never wonder why I don't share mine. It's simple. I don't think anyone would understand. I think they would say I am crazy. I don't want to be judged. I have seen some very mean comments on the stories shared by those mothers. But I'll share it here. Here, I am safe.

I don't have some awesome reason for extended nursing. My child simply nursed as often as he wanted until he no longer wanted to. It just so happened that he was 7 at the time.
