  • Today I found this scan of one of my contact sheets.

In 2002 we moved from Portland, Oregon back to Austin. We took the long, slow way and made a half dozen stops along the way. Many of them in Northern California. We camped in Big Sur. It is such a stunning, extreme place - even after spending a year touring the Pacific Northwest and the coast from Oregon to Canada - Big Sur was different.

So much about today is different. I don't shoot medium format film based photography anymore. I don't take long slow, winding road trips with my wife, either. We've got kids. Beautiful kids - more beautiful than Big Sur. We have school, cousins day (Tuesdays), doctors appointments and bath time. I have my business and an iphone that speaks to me all day long about business.

But we still have our dog Luci. We rescued her in Portland after our Beagle was hit by a taxi in the city. Really, Luci rescued us from a sad, quiet dog-less existence. We were only dog-less for two weeks. It seemed like forever.
