  • In Germany the people give angry stares that tell me how American I must look, bedraggled and sweaty off a 7 and a half hour flight. Everyone has deep frown lines on their faces, so odd to someone like me who rarely forgets to smile. I instantly stereotype them as angry.

    But I buy a nasty tasting iced red tea from the vendor in the airport and she says thank you and is very sweet. Perhaps smiling just isn't the thing here.
