  • December 3rd 2012 - an emotional day - after a year's hard work, we were going to be feeding people.

God chooses his moments, a busy Mum like me, the LAST thing I needed was a call to social action, November 2011 I was rudely woken with a voice that simply said 'Foodbank'. After sinking back a coffee ( or two ) I sat at the computer and 'Googled' Foodbank....The first site on the list led me to The Trussell Trust. A UK Christian charity which opens foodbanks - they feed people in a food poverty crisis.

    I was gobsmacked.

My heart was overwhelmed - I shared my story with friends in a local coffee shop....they were so excited, a year before God had called them to move to Deal, and they had been wondering why, but had acted in obedience....
Right there in that place The Deal Area Emergency Foodbank was born.
Lots of prayer and seeking God's vision was needed, we contacted The Trussell Trust and got the ball rolling.....more team members came forward, God provided 7 of us, each with our own skills and talents to bring to the project. What a blessing!
As the tiredness kicked in, many of us were struck with illness, but we drove through the adversity and opened the doors on December 3rd 2012 with over 4 tonnes of food in our warehouse which had been donated by the public.
To date we have fed 63 individuals- nearly a ton of food has gone out, and we know the need for our service will increase. It has opened our eyes to the poverty around us, even in a middle class seaside town like ours.....
Can you make a difference in your town? xxx
