  • You can tell which one is me, since I'm the only girl.

I grew up being the only girl, much of the time. I didn't mind, I was a tomboy. I loved hiking and mountain climbing, camping, skiing. I did a lot of it as a child and teenager and as a young adult and even on into my 40s and 50s.

    I miss it tremendously.

I did climb two mountains in 2012. They were labeled mountains, but they were small, both of them, nothing like what I used to do.

I'm embarrassed to admit that the main reason I cannot readily climb mountains any more is that I am too fat. I am not strong enough to haul all that extra weight up a real mountain.

But I cannot seem to lose weight, no matter how hard I try.

I wish there were miracles, but there don't seem to be.
  • The other people in the picture are my two brothers, Robert and Tom, and their two best friends, David and Peter.

From left to right, Mary, Robert (Bob then), Peter, David, Tom.

I do not have the actual photo to scan it larger. (I totally guessed at the date).

I am taking a break from working on my fellowship application.
