  • My day was disrupted by needing to take my 91-year-old mother-in-law to the doctor.

I love her; she's a wonderful person--but I was unable to do what I needed to do.

I went out at 8:15 in the dark to walk and the sidewalks were icy and difficult and I sort of dragged along wondering how I would manage everything when I heard this wild scary hooting noise. It went on and one and was answered on my other side by another.

    Screech owls.

I came back to myself. The wild had found me and restored me.
  • Imagine the sound coming from both sides in the dark, going on and on.

    (It was wonderful!)

I apologize for the excruciatingly quick sketch.
