  • This is my wife Yoko.

This is one of my favorite faces that she makes.

Her eyes tell me she is a little annoyed but her mouth and cheeks betray a growing smile. It is a face that is always held for a moment before falling into laughter. It is one of the things I love about Yoko.

We are in my Lolo and Lola's backyard in Florida. Yoko is holding some calamansi that we just picked. Calamansi are Filipino limes. They look like cute little oranges but they have a rich, intense lime flavor.

Yoko's expression here is like the opposite of a calamansi: a little intense on the outside but sweet just beneath the surface.

Just after this photo was taken, we went inside and made hot calamansi tea. Yoko added a lot of sugar to her cup.
