  • All over India right now, there are festivities going on-regionally very different but they all celebrate essentially the same thing-gratitude and thanks for a good Harvest. Come to think of it, people all over the world have always celebrated Harvest festivals. As I understand it’s a moment of joy. Joy of reaping the rewards for surrendering to the creative transformation that the earth and humans engage in together. There is an acknowledgement of the earth’s power and in fact all the elements that combine together. And yet so many processes have come between us-humans and the fruits of the land.

Actually it’s the way we work with the elements. A lot of agriculture is about control and sure this has produced bumper harvests but what about how it has dis-embeded us from the land. In the long run, will this be good for us, I wonder? But then I’m always re-assured by the earth itself-because she is all about balance and whether we like it or not, resist it or not, she will take us back to the balance.

We all feel the earth in some way or other, why do we love to walk on green grass bare foot, why do we love visiting the “country side”. It’s the energy of the earth, its pure love and when we work together with it; feeling its rhythm, we are one with ourselves. And we can’t stay away from this connection for long. She won’t let us.
