Now, for a pre- christmas walk through a nice cheery scene.
The Garlands are up ,lights
telling you its a holiday, Music for everyone. Plenty of people.
My wife, and two other couples together sitting a lovely table in view of the festivities
laughter, partying, talk, toasts, Menus, celebration... you know, a night out.
I glance out the window and see a group gathering and stepping back and obviously
upset. Something is happening. My hair, my taste, my eyes my muscle knowledge goes
on alert. I smile at my wife, my guests as I excuse myself quietly away from the table and
accelerate towards the door.
Crowd.. Noise.... No One Doing anything from ten feet away. Entry is low, hard, fast and at a oblique angle and in silence.
There she is. Down, bleeding, fists and kicks coming in to the stomach and face .
Shouting is happening in another language, my direction, sure, fast and violent.

He looses four teeth and goes down with a broken knee.
The woman is unconscious, loosing blood. There is some money and a few gifts on the
I look down, turning my head at a man with a phone. "Have you called the police?" He swallows, nods Yes.

men beating a girl/ a woman
Walk through the unsure crowd that turns between the scene and a mans departure.
A wash up, grab a jacket, put my Irish tweed hat on and ask my wife to change places
ask for a welcomed re- seat , hearing the table talking about the activity across the
I put my hands under the table with a napkin through dinner, so the blood from a small
wound wont put off my friends. A double vodka tonic.
The police take a quick look in the door but don't come in.
The group outside slowly disperses and by desert and coffee, life here, is back to
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
