Last summer I met mr. Simek in a park in Rotterdam. Fascinated by his joy for life, his visible joy in painting and the twinkles in his eyes I couldn't help myself staring at him for a couple of minutes. Looking at him made me wonder why we are so busy in finding meaning in everything we do. We try to find meaning in our art, in our life and in our relationships with others. Maybe there is no profound meaning in why we live, maybe we are just here to enjoy the sun, the things we create and to be free of meaning in what we are doing. Heck, I even try to find meaning in looking at somebody enjoying his free moments in the sun.
After introducing myself I asked politely if I could take his picture. We chatted a bit about paint and the creative process, in the end he gave me the best advice : "Just enjoy yourself, the rest isn't important."
Mr. Simek is my new hero.
