  • My name is Guddu.
    I am 17 years old.
Birthday? ... hmm ... don't remember the exact date. It was raining heavily ... monsoon time ... that's what my mother says.
I was born in Gutter Gali of Dharavi. Gali is lane in Hindi language.
My mother works as a house maid in different houses in the neighborhood high rise towers ... apartments.
I stopped going to school when I was 7 years old. I don't like going to school but I love learning outside the school.
I got my first job in a recycling workshop of medical syringes at the age of 7. I pulled the different parts off a syringe with my fingers.
It hurt my hand at first but I got used to it.
I left that job and started to work in a jeans factory in Dharavi because they promised me bigger money.
Money is the motivation as I need it to support my family. My father's health is not good and I save money for his medicines.
Lastly, I was working in a paper recycle workshop. The workshop was broken down by Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Me and many other people have become jobless. I wanted to stop those bulldozers when they were destroying the recycle workshops and homes. I was so mad but I couldn't do anything as there were so many police.
Sapna ... I know English you say Dream ... Actor ... I want to become an Actor so I can give voice to the people from my community. Actor is a doer. He does things...I want to do for my community. In my spare time, I go to dvd theater in Dharavi to watch movies. I study and learn acting there. I am improving. It also helps me control my emotions. Sometimes I get very angry. I hate my anger but sometimes it's also good. I take up a challenge and complete it. Like right now, my number one priority is my family. I need to take care of them. So I must be strong and I must go to work.
