  • The beauty of my chosen professions is the fact that I get the opportunity to influence the lives of others.

    Hopefully, in a positive manner.

What few realize is that I am also impacted by those who I meet. Be it in the classroom or the courtroom.

As 2012 comes to a close, one of the biggest joys was meeting Juli. Immigrant. Mother. World traveler. Juli has experiences that cannot be certified by any amount of classroom hours. Her return to college is purely to achieve a "formal" education future employers request upon an initial interview.

The Joy of Being Juli is the thrill of being alive. She is inquisitive and wanting to learn all that she does not know. And despite the intelligence that belies her years, she is never quick to tell you what she knows, but in simple conversation, you understand that she could easily teach sociology, world politics, religion, or philosophy.

Fortunately, Juli is now a former student and a current friend. Her smile and spirit is one that has been a welcome addition to my world this year.

And though you may not have met her, I'm positive that you have someone similar to her that you've met this year.

This is my public thank you to her.
