  • I open my eyes to be greeted by warm sunlight trickling through the wood shades, pooling golden on stained grey carpet, tracing intricate silhouettes on glowing walls, reaching its arms through the windows and capturing wandering dust bunnies in the light. Dad won't have to wake me this morning. I launch myself from the bedsheets as energy seeps through my body, itching to make the most of the beautiful day.
"Watch out world, here I come!"
The world is out there, clear and sunny, for me to tackle. But at the moment, I am happy to just stretch out in the sun patches with the cats lounging beside me, examining every thread in the carpet, seeing light stream through the window, watching dust float in unpredictable patters to the unknown. An hour later, I'm still there, rolling as the sun light slowly slips across the room, craving the warmth as it tickles my skin. Soon the sun has moved on, the shape-shifting shadows on the walls blending together until it as if they had never existed. I am left stranded in a shrinking pool of light until at last, I join the shadows, seeking the last of the warmth in the cooling carpet. But, well, you can't eat your cake and have it too. Still I wish I could place an order in the sun bakery for just a bit more light!
