  • I was having dinner with my friend Vito. The guy who came to clear our table called us "gentlemen."

    Vito's not a close friend of mine, so I quickly checked his face for a reaction. Nothing. I thought, did I mishear? I don't think so, I think I just am way more tuned into it, so I can better manage it.

    Restaurants can be bad. The worse incident I can remember is when I was out to lunch with a group of about 10 coworkers. It was my second day on the job. The waitress said, "What would you like, sir?"

    I don't remember much other than every single person at the table staring at me. I probably acted nonchalant. That's why I have to hear it first. So I know what to do with my face.
