  • Psalm One Hundred Twenty Two

A Psalm of David to his brethren

You made me so very happy,
    when you said these words,
“Let's go to the house of the Lord,
let's stand on the streets of Jerusalem.”

In Jerusalem, we are among our family,
We will be with our brothers and sisters.
We will rise daily to praise our God,
we will join hearts and hands with those who love the Lord.

There sit the thrones of Judgment,
there are the thrones of David.
There you can hear the prayers for peace,
    for the peacemakers will prosper.

We will pray with all Jerusalem for peace,
we will join hands with our brothers and our sisters,
for God is in His holy temple,
the Lord will hear our prayers for peace.

    Israel, Jerusalem, Peace

In the modern world, it is sometimes difficult to say these words in the same sentence. Lately, the Palestinian contingency under control of Hamas has been lobbing rocket attacks at Israel. The leaders of Hamas are demanding the end of the blockade of Gaza so the Palestinians can build a nation where they have a sound internal economy and the right to educate their children and restore their culture.

We also know that Israel refuses to deal with any group who uses threats of violence or terrorism against Israel. By launching rockets into Israeli territory, Hamas has almost guaranteed a peaceful solution will not be reached in the near future.

The world has weighed in on the events. President Obama has backed Israel, saying they have a right to defend themselves. Others have accused Israel of being behind the attacks to swell political support behind Netanyehu. The tensions are high, and the possibility of a ground war looms on the horizon, a ground war that could cost thousands of civilian lives.

David's plea and thanks today seem more than relevant to the times.

Join me in a prayer for peace.
