  • It looks quite odd. There is often a tourist standing here, with a confused look in the face. Connecting two of the islands that Stockholm is built on: Västerbron (Westbridge). It's known for being the toughest part of the Stockholm Marathon. And for being a popular spot for suicide. And now this: At the peak of the long, high bridge, there are hundreds of padlocks.

    I don't know how it started. But it's about love and commitment.

    People in love perform a ritual where they lock a padlock to the bridge, and then throw the keys in the water 30 meters (100 feet) below.

    Local authorities say they have no problem with this. The ritual can go on for as long as there is room on the bridge. The bridge is 600 meters (2000 feet) long.
