  • Little Navseen drew this on her own one day and gifted it to me ("Bhaiya (Brother), please close your eyes. I have a surprise for you. Now, open your eyes. There is one big butterfly which is me and the little butterflies are other kids in class")

What was really striking about this artwork was the way this 7 year old girl saw her classroom - for her all of us are butterflies, including the Teacher. As their Teacher, often I struggle with understanding things (and the world) from an innocent child's perspective. Unless I understand that, how can I even attempt to help them learn ?

PS: My class children call me Srini Bhaiya and not "teacher" or "Sir". Calling me "Bhaiya" (Or brother) has helped establish a deep bond which extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom.
