  • It is Sunday before the impending tropical storm. The sky is a pale gray, not threatening. Occasionally the wind will gust a little and the leaves on the ancient gingko outside my window will snow golden. Students on their way into the library to do the weekend's work in midterm crunch, smile and drag their feet through the fallen leaves. Every year this ritual repeats itself.
