  • Stephanie insists on sleeping on the side of the bed closest to the door.
She says it’s so she can escape in the event of a catastrophic fire but I know it’s so she can escape me if ever I forget to love her enough.
Last night she padded off to the bathroom and I rolled over in search of her delicious warmth.
She returned, all bed head and sleepy eyes.
‘You’re on my side’, she lamented, nuzzling against me and pushing me back in my place.
I kissed her languid lips and murmured back, ‘Always, honey, always’.
