  • A friend commented that my life has gone askew. It has, a bit, at least on the surface. But underneath, where character is built, some wonderfully powerful rumblings move me.

I feel a forest growing there. It is thick and muscular, golden and warm. I see that it is my own maturity.

As it expands and broadens, I begin to understand how the ripening happens. Like outstanding athletic or musical achievement, excellent maturity performance requires practice, patient acquisition of skills over time, development of the right muscles, more practice, and, in the end, audience appreciation and validation.

You recognize that moment when you get it right.
