Risk is essential. There is no growth or inspiration in staying within what is safe and comfortable. Once you find out what you do best, why not try something else?

I find that taking a risk, extending myself in a new direction, is like stepping out onto a frozen lake. The surface looks easy, open, and secure. But it is not so. I open myself up to looking ridiculous if the ice gives way.

Risk-taking often opens me up to deep misgivings as to the wisdom of the course I am on. But, as I walk across the white expanse of an unknown, if there is a sense of growing freedom and inspiration, I know that I am on the right track. And I have learned, from past adventures, that nothing done from the impulse of my truest selfhood is ever a mistake.
