  • This week's challenge on Frederick Smith's The Poetry Haven (LinkedIn), is to write in the form of a Bop poem.

A Bop is a form of poetic argument consisting of three stanzas, each stanza followed by a repeated line, or refrain, and each undertaking a different purpose in the overall argument of the poem. (poets, org)

  • I was asked what could have been
the trigger of my Fibromyalgia so I
    experience chronic pain and cannot
do my share of carrying life’s physical
load, lifting shopping or cleaning the floor. I
cannot knead clay or squeeze a tube.

Pain is with me every day.

    Painful memories visit me out
of the mists of time. When I climbed
    a tree but could not get down;
my father said jump, I‘ll catch
you and he did not. My mother
told a tale, laughing, of banging
my head on the water tank whilst
winding me as a babe her arms.

Pain is with me every day.

But I can conjure up miraculous
meals and l give thanks that my
    husband enjoys his routine
of caring for our home as well
as me, and I can help him sort
out his woes, and hold his hand.

Pain is with me every day.
