  • It isn't easy these days, walking the middle line. Often times, you find yourself ensnared in the bear-traps of conservative fear or lost in the realms of liberal utopia. They curse your name on both sides, simultaneously shouting about your plans for communist rule and how you seek to oppress the poor if it will bring you a profit. They don't stand to reason. One side blames you of spewing the same FOX News rhetoric while the other talks about your long-time romance with MSNBC. It doesn't matter where you actually get your news, they will always repeat the same slogans.

Perhaps I am young and just naive and will come to learn, one day, that democracy has always functioned this way. The loud extreme capable of making the most difference while the calm moderates are pushed to the sidelines, always accused of standing for nothing. I fear that one day this constant rejection of the moderate compromise will burden me with apathy. It is the souls I come across, every now and again, who share my sense of rejection and frustration for the under-representation of logic, that keep me thinking, "Maybe I'm not the only one who hasn't gone crazy or apathetic."
