  • We were enjoying a two hour cruise on the Bosphorus, when we
saw a number of seagulls following us. They were so beautiful
and looking at them,I was thinking of hundreds of little birds all
over the world imprisoned in little cages .The poor caged birds
are sold for a sum of money .
People who buy them, don’t they ever think of what would happen
if they themselves were forced to live within four walls all their lives?
It must be a horrible experience.
I thought of all those poor girls kidnapped and sold into prostitution
with never the hope of being free. All those people who are forced
to do things which they do not want to but are helpless.
It is the same as being caged .
After some time we heard a lot of noise. The seagulls were screeching
at the top of their voices. The engine of the cruising boat was churning
out a lot of water, maybe this was bringing the fishes to the surface.
The birds were after us to catch their lunch :)) They would suddenly
swoop down to the water, all of them in the same place, screeching
and it sounded as if they were all quarreling. Maybe they were. Then
they would all follow us again and then again swoop down. This
    continued for quite some time.
They stopped following as we neared the coast. Those seagulls were
so beautiful and it was a pleasure to watch them.
No doubt it was a difficult life, but they had the vast blue sky to fly,
where and when they wanted to. They had the freedom.
Birds are not meant to be caged.
I remembered reading long ago a story about a little nightingale
living in a golden cage in the palace of a King. After a while it stopped
singing , a golden cage is still a cage and nothing else. Finally the
king realized that he had done a great wrong to the little bird and
set it free. The little bird happy in its freedom started to sing again :)

"God loved the birds and invented trees.Man loved the birds and invented cages".
    ~Jacques Deval, French Playwright
