  • They say in these northern latitudes that April is cruelest month of them all.

Not October, not November. But April. Because of the light.

In April there are still no leaves in trees to soften light and give shade. Light is very powerful and very sharp and very unforgivable and it lasts from early morning deep into the night. The light of April shows every wrinkle in your face and every mistake in your soul you have made during last months.

People make most suicides in Finland in April.

In autumn light in Finland is very merciful. It is soft and dim and it makes all the women look more beautiful and all the men look more handsome. It turns all your mistakes into most clever deeds indeed.

In spite of all the downsides I really miss light of April in this duskiness of October. I don't need the mercifulness of October. I miss the almighty light.
