  • Whenever I find myself getting a little heavy with a story - and I swear that last one wrote itself - I like to mellow with something rather less consequential.

So here are a few flower photographs from Cape Town's Kirstenbosch Gardens that I took at the end of 2011.

At the time I was sick with the most revolting cold that I've ever had, picked up on the almost day long flight from St. Louis to Cape Town. I was actually surprised I was in a fit state to operate my camera.

The title photograph shows Table Mountain to the rear. Kirstenbosch is situated high on the approaching hill.
  • Leucospermum flowers.
  • Protea flower.
  • Another leucospermum flower head.
  • Yet another leucospermum flower head.

Still, you really can't get enough of these beautiful flowers. But before this descends into one of those travel photograph slide shows given by well-meaning friends that we've all been to and wish we could leave one third of the way in, I'll stop.

I'll end with a picture of a couple who were having a far more relaxed time than I was at the time.

In fact, about the same level of mellow as I feel right now.

Time for a glass of wine.
