  • I love the grass at the beach, in lakes and on lawns ... For the past 40 years as a photo artist in B/W and color grass has been my model often. This picture was from a trip to our WA beaches a few years ago.

    I also have painted in W/C for about 35 years ... and shared a few here on Cowbird. I am also a writer/poet of prose and tales ... and in my profession as a conservationist - sustainability specialist, I write grants, articles, an endless emails running from requests, demands and many thank you.

    Today in my little city of Olympia WA we have a Fall Arts Walk today/night a wonderful event going back over 30 years. I use to exhibit each year - but the last five or six years I just enjoy attending ... since the work of exhibiting is hard with my full time job.

    So today for Arts Walk - I have shared with my Cowbird community my picture of beach grass and with it a poem I wrote in 1974, during a time I lived with a poet/actor and had not yet found my voice and eye ... in all that I am today.

    This is a Poem by a younger me dedicated to all that I am and will be. - BGT R

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I~~~
    For the Poets
    If I were a poet
    I’d
    Write a line
    Grab the hole in my gut
    Give it words.
    Then as a painter
    I’d
    Give my line, my hole,
    Color and form
    I’d
    Be a composer
    Music would complete the line
    In sound
    Silence
    Hushed in rest
