  • It started with an observation I made while nail-clipping.
How natural the role of primary caregiver to my self!
How comforting it felt to be able.

Reaffirming to appreciate myself openly, unashamedly
all these years paring cuticles, re-investing hands & feet.
    Peaceful swelling slowly spilling, equanimity.

How gratifying to be aware; watching me watch!
How simple practices are conduits of attention & focus can be used
to cleanse the ledges where we look. Dust from our leaves.

How much gratitude for this incarnation of soul!
    How much better working together!
I can tell when I touch me with kindness.

Tactile the sense of being, it has a physicality,
an embodiment which encumbers, grows frail
but without which I cannot soar.

    Body limited magnificent, empowered to comply;
    wonderful weave our biochemistry,
    being humanity.

How satisfying so small (in a universe)
filled with awe for it in me, so thankful
    for twenty minutes, quiet self-devotion.

    Softly, slowly
    gently the snail,
whose home hurls through the darkness & light.
