  • When I find myself in a state of despair, I console myself by retreating to my bed and pulling the covers up over my head. I am much too old for this behavior. Still, in the darkness of my bed tent, I feel swaddled and safe. There is something about being unseen that makes you disappear, and perhaps at least psychologically, your troubles may disappear too.
