I saw my Father yesterday afternoon.
He had had a bad night and worse morning.
He could not breathe and had suffered panic and congestive heart failure.
The condition is being controlled with medicine.

He has been through so much in the last few weeks.
Open-heart surgery, other congestive heart failures.
So much over the last few months, a long decline punctuated with near collapses.

Yesterday he had something to read to me.
I was worried he would wear himself out by exertion.
    He insisted.

It was not the way that he used words that struck me.
He spoke, in a very straightforward manner.
    He has a legal training.

He had had a religious experience that morning.
That was what he had to read to me, his revelation.
The Universe had been revealed to him as whole and perfect.
The feeling was still with him, he said.

We were both crying, there, on the edge of his bed.
Had I ever felt that? He asked me.
    Yes, I had.
The Universe has given you a gift, I said.
Yes, that was it, a gift from the Universe he agreed.
And that is what I reflected on when I lay awake this morning.

Moonlight came in under the dark curtain.
The clock face showed me 3am for hours, or so it seemed.
