  • A single leaf drifts down
    unhampered by a breeze
    its slow, descending spiral
marks the alpha of the fall
    omega of the summer
    time unrepentant
    begins its slow digression
    into winter hibernation

    Soon colors of the fall
    replace the greens of summer
    burning in the breeze
    beginning the digression
    of memories that spiral
    drifting unrepentant
    the spirit's hibernation
    the season trickles down

    The cool and gentle breeze
    creates the errant spiral
    last remnants of the summer
    greenery consumed by fall
    preparing for the hibernation
    life settles down
    a sonorous digression
    surrender unrepentant

    Our seasonal digression
    earth's cycle unrepentant
    inevitable release of summer
    as the temperatures wind down
    a steady breeze
    harbinger of fall
    an endless spiral
    of imposed hibernation

    Yet are we unrepentant
    in this seasonal digression
    do we fall
    into this cyclic hibernation
    or lulled by winter breeze
    release the summer
    to the inevitable spiral
    when leaves are falling down

    Seasons mock our hibernation
    mimic our inevitable spiral
    into living digression
    as we allow our summer
    to fade slowly into fall
    and with the chilling breeze
we wrap our hopes in unrepentant
    blankets from despair coming down

    Should we surrender summer
    accept the fall
    accept this slow digression
    and listless hibernation
    lemmings unrepentant
of the slow and steady spiral
where the only path is down
    along an empty barren breeze

    Shall we reject the spiral
    refusing the digression
    of the piper's errant breeze
    abeying hibernation
    cling to summer
    deny the fall
    refuse the idle laying down
    remain aware and unrepentant

The spiral of the earth's digression into hibernation will soon fall
yet we, unrepentant, can clasp on to summer, cling to the breeze, and refuse to lay down.
