  • A lazy afternoon is what we had today, my Mom and I.

A late lunch at 2 followed by a shared dessert that was a pack of Twix which I almost forgot I had. The chocolate had melted into the wrapper and the caramel a gooey mess, the hot weather to be blamed. Still, it was delightful. I love sharing chocolates with people I love for the simple fact that it makes me feel good knowing that they, too, would be experiencing momentary bliss as they bite into the saccharine treat. It's no easy feat to restrain one's self from eating that second Twix biscuit, but to see my Mom enjoy her share is a perfect ending to an otherwise mundane lunch.

The sun's hot rays invaded our home, casting a bright glow on the things it touched. I'm a rain person and would normally unwelcome a sunny afternoon but today I decided it was beautiful, how the blinding light created a contrast next to a shadow. I left my Mom to quietly enjoy the rest of the day thinking she probably wanted a few hours to herself. I settled into my bed hoping to take a nap, and I felt grateful for what we're sharing-- sweetness, solitude, the silence and the sun.
