  • I have decided to write. I want to write my story down like the people that lived before me. Like the books. No one in my world writes. There is no need. Synapse records everything. It picks up our brainwaves and records every thought, every idea. If I want to remember more clearly, I can go back and scan through my wristpad. If any images appeared to me at the time, I will see those same images again.

I want to write about my life here in Mono-Globe. Mono-Globe is my world. My home. OUR home. Life in Mono-Globe is about the present and the future. We don't concern ourselves with the past. Synapse picks up on any nuances of the past that may affect us directly and puts forth information we may need for our success in the future.

Yet the past has always been of concern to me. I never understood why. As if by an invisible fiber I've always been pulled to the books. I never thought to explore this nexus any further except by my reading of the books. But now that my Sourcepoint has been revealed as "Scanner", I don't know what will become of me. I want to leave my individual story for someone to find in the future. I know somehow that this is something I must do. Something important to the future of Mono-Globe. To write anything here, we just speak into our wristpads and it is recorded in the archives. Each of us has private access to our own brainwave recordings, but the archives are for everyone. We can find any subject we can imagine in the archives. I don't want to write like that. I want to write it down. We have no paper here. I remembered, as a child, having seen a bound book in the "tomb," a diary, with only three diary entries and many blank pages. I scanned my wristpad and finally found the book amongst the thousands. I will use this book. This book that once belonged to "Jonathan Gray". To find a writing instrument I had to get more creative. In the end, a crystal-tipped wand with a chemical solution mimicking the properties of ink has proved to work quite well.

My name is Tela, and I am nineteen years old. My world is Mono-Globe. The year is 3028.
We started counting from the year 01 when we began our life here. The people did not want the history that came before them to be part of their history, part of the future of Mono-Globe. The books are the only records that exist of that time and they came with us only because Mulis and Van Peel, the creators of Mono-Globe, insisted.
