  • Annette came out the back door with a grin on her face, excited that she had found something Katie would enjoy. She is holding a baking book Katie had brought back from her University house.

    "Katie...this is so funny.."

    Katie, who is very busy sunbathing, pulled off the headphones, and looked up at her Mum with the book, as she came down the grotty old garden path.

    "yes mum, whats funny?"

    Annette opened up the baking book, the sheets still filled with a batter crust, a book she had given Katie, that had sat on Katie's kitchen table, which had been baked from a thousand times and towards the end, held a few white sheets of paper.

    These sheets of paper held stories, scribbles, doodles, lists, recipes, markings, tea stains, cigarette ash; the usual for a house of students loving life as much as the next.

    Katie looked down at one of the sheets of white paper, Briony had clearly been using it one day as her diary, as Briony was terrible with forgetting journals at home, and it read;

    "To do List:
    1, clean room
    2, get anna's birthday present
    3, get morning after pill!!!!
    4, books to library
    5, CLEAN PAINTBRUSHES"

    The list struck a chord of love, nostalgia and warmth in Katie, and she thought, well, I really hope Briony returned those books.
