  • The heart weighs 520 grams.

    That line of Jason’s autopsy really stood out to me. There were other lines that were equally weird, interesting and even funny (“unremarkable male” was used to describe him a few times, I’d have loved to tease him over that), but somehow it was the one about the heart that really got me.

    “Just 520 grams? Not this heart,” I said out loud to no one in my empty apartment. Not this heart.

    No, there's been a mistake because see, this heart was so big and full and good that there’d be no way to fit it on a scale. There’d no way that it was quantifiable in ugly black courier font typed sloppily, on a slight angle on the autopsy photocopied page.

    No, they weren’t talking about this heart that I lay against not long ago, jokingly commenting that I could hear it and it was strong…. Oh no wait it stopped! Oh no, there it is again… teasing, and he chuckled.

    But I guess it is this heart. And I guess it weighs 520 grams.
