  • My kids always think that, because I am volatile and speak my mind, I'm going to wind up in jail.

So when I told my son that I had scored a ticket to the Missouri Senatorial debate, His only comment was, "Please don't get arrested."

So there I am, braving the chilly morning air, waiting for Claire McCaskill, mingling with the other supporters and holding a sign thrust on me by an enthusiastic young man.

After a pretty long wait, we were told that the the Senator would be arriving by car to the south entrance. We all trooped over there and waited by the entrance. When the Senator arrived, we were an excited bunch waving our signs and cheering. The picture above is me shaking hands with the Senator and my friend, Andy, waiting his turn.

Waiting to get into the Senatorial debate, we watched the Gubernatorial debate in the hotel lounge. It was a good debate and just whetted our appetites for the Senatorial debate to come.

Andy and I were finally allowed in the debate room and found good seats. It kinda gives you a thrill watching Democracy in action. And as I reported to my son later, "I didn't get arrested."
