  • A very good friend, Alberto Lopes, who died many years ago, was my doctor, the man who delivered my two children to this world and who will be always in my heart. He used to say to me that if we connect too many electric appliances to the same socket sooner or later there would be an explosion .He told me that human beings react in the same way. We accumulate stress after stress and one day we do not have an explosion but we can have a cancer, a nervous breakdown and many other dangerous consecuences, because our system cannot deal with so many things at the same time. We keep going with all the burdens on our shoulders and we do not take time for ourselves to rest, to walk, to meditate, to have a little space of our own, because there is always someone who needs our attention and they seem to be a priority.
The real priority is ourselves. As in the airplanes a voice tells us that If an oxygen mask is required, we always have to put our own on first and then help the children or other people who need assistance. That is a very wise statement because if we are well, we are strong and we can deal with whatever comes our way. If we are not we end up like the tree in my picture completely entangled in our own stress and in that state we cannot help anybody, not even ourselves.
