  • She was selected to be an astronaut back when women didn't do that sort of thing. She didn't make a big deal of it, although others did. She was selected for her flights because she was competent, smart and a quick learner.

    Spaceflight became her ordinary. It was what you did, everyday, just like eating breakfast, going to the office, stopping by the store.

    She left the planet and opened doors of opportunity and promise for many women, most who never met her.

    She left us, and we planted a tree to thank her today.
