  • I hate election season...hate, hate, hate, hate it. I hate the lying, manipulating, approved ads and the endless describing of the problems that never include a solution. And the blame...great heaping globs of it. Over the years I have become quite callous about the whole process. I can't remember voting for a candidate because I believed in him/her; I voted for whom I felt would do the least damage. This voting season coincides with my 18 year old son's high school graduation and his subsequent decision to enlist in the United States Army. My political apathy was jolted out of my over protective body when this beloved boy was sworn in. "I....state your name...swear my allegiance to...blah, blah...the Commander in Chief...." My son has just sworn to defend and uphold leadership direction from someone I hoped, four years ago, wouldn't inflict too much damage on our country and its citizens. He is willing to give his life to "defend and uphold." I am proud, worried, scared and unflinchingly supportive of his decision. Voting this year feels very different.
