  • I ventured out for a brief evening stroll
    42 minutes, 2.2 miles
I've walked the route many times
I know each pothole and blind corner to
    zigzag around

I've walked this neighborhood for more than 10 years,
I know the houses that have additions
the cars that leave oil blots across the mottled asphalt
the cats that break into a sprint
    towards you
purring in anticipation of a kind and strange pet.

And yet tonight I noticed something new,
though it's been there all along
    in this neighborhood
criss-crossed with a potpourri of Spanish and English names.

In a flash my ears were filled with the crooning of Andy Williams
singing of "two drifters off to see the world"
    after that same rainbow's end,
    waitin' 'round the bend."

What a delight to realize that my very own Moon River
    really was
    just around the concrete bend,
    at the intersection of
    Luna and River Drives.
