  • My new husband and I recently adopted a dog from the shelter. We named him Roy. He's adorable. Potty-trained. Socialized. And mind-numbingly cute. He's also, strangely enough, at odds with my immune system. If I cuddle too much, for too long, I get red and itchy patches on my forearms and neck. I've had dogs and cats in the past. Birds, too. And I've never had a reaction to any of them. Why Roy? It's a mystery. But I don't care. And I'm not giving him back.

A little itch, I can live with.
