  • I'm for having a little alchemy and transforming our ego to our friend and warrior, as the Toltecs say. It's like taming that frisky little puppy. Because we cannot survive in society without the ego. Ego types this reply, it thinks the thoughts that go into it. It talks, does the routine functions, takes care of the body, drives the car.

The Sufis have a metaphor that the carriage is the body, the horse is the emotions, the driver is the ego and the Essence is the passenger. If we have a disobedient driver, run away horse and a broken down carriage, then Essence, the passenger, is being ignored or disobeyed so no one is guiding the carriage, horses, driver.

Conscious evolution is awareness, ego being aware and following the guidance and direction of Essence. Being in NOW is living in awareness from our Essence and not from our ego, it means acting from Essence with Love, not re-acting from ego and our habits, beliefs and points of view that are based on fear and do not serve us. Our mission, if we so choose to take it, is to live in this state of awareness as much as possible and when we forget and drop back into ego, we must again wake up and realize we are in ego again. With this insight, we remove the veil to Essence and are guided by Essence instead of leading from ego.

I went to a lecture a few years ago by a Buddhist Monk, on the sacredness of Japanese gardens. I got there early so I could sit in front in the middle of the row. It was wonderful, I went into an altered state and my 'mind' was gone during his whole presentation and I can't tell you what he talked about, only that he showed slides of beautiful gardens and talked about their sacredness.

As I was driving home in this lovely high state, I suddenly realized that I got it! I REALLY got it!!! Then came the realized that when I thought 'I got It', I lost it, because my ego came in to be proud of myself for getting it and then shoved Essence right out the carriage door. (Who then came back in again with my second realization).

I think there are very few people that live in Essence 24/7, and most of us have the potential to at least be in Awareness/NOW/Essence/Presence/Light, at least part of the time. Our creative actions come from guidance of Essence and putting our ego to the side, and this puts 'us' in service to Essence.

Create, breathe, drum, dance, paint, sing……..and keep your carriage, driver and horse in 'good' condition with the guidance of the passenger.
