  • No matter what age you are, you have a favourite teacher that you remember fondly. Can you imagine your school career without that special teacher? Did they have a hand in moulding you into the person you are today? Whether people realize it or not, teachers are essentially the most important profession in the world. Without teachers, we wouldn't have doctors, lawyers, CEO's of fortune 500 companies. Without teachers we wouldn't have new technology.

People get so worked up about "rich teacher's" whining, about pay cuts or unconstitutional legislation stripping them of their rights, that they can't see the forest for the trees. They don't realize, teachers don't ACTUALLY get paid for the summer. Their pay is pro rated / they bank a certain portion of every pay, so as to spread it out evenly over the year so they DON'T have to go through two months without pay. Most teacher's I know even have part-time jobs. My own husband is a high school teacher and he teaches summer school every year and now with this 1.5% pay cut (because of 3 forced unpaid days off -oh yes that's right. Rae days are back people- every year) he has had to make the hard choice to teach night school to supplement his income.

This "put students first" propaganda is complete crap! My husband stays after school to offer extra help on his own time, he has volunteered every year since he started teaching, for the school's wrestling team, which has him away from his OWN children 4 nights a week. Teacher's don't get PAID for coaching. My husband has even had to pay, out of his own pocket, for a supply teacher so he could take his team to a tournament and THEN paid out of pocket for a van rental to get them there. The same is true for many teachers who coach a school team so don't even TRY to tell me that teachers don't put students first. If teachers didn't care about their students, they wouldn't have signed up for the job in the first place. I know all of my family and friends who are teachers, truly love their jobs and care deeply for the education of their students.

Did you know that Dalton McGuinty spoke to the Teacher's union before the last Provincial election and promised NOT to pick apart their contract? Here we are, not too long after that speech and not only has he picked apart their contract, he has stripped them of their RIGHT to negotiate a new one. If you want to "blame" someone for the downturn that education is about to take in Ontario, blame Dalton McGuinty. He doesn't care about the students! PLEASE, don't make em laugh! He cares about money, plain and simple! Teachers are his scapegoat for the deficit.

I wonder how government would feel if THEIR terms were changed without a vote? How would THEY like a pay cut? How would they like it if they were lied to as they have lied to teachers?

Don't be blind to the government's lies. Look at the teachers' side of things too. It's not what they would have you believe. Teachers are not greedy, selfish or spoiled. Don't be foolish. Take a STAND and support the people who are with your children for more hours of a day then you are. If teachers become jaded because of the government, our education system is in serious peril of becoming less than is necessary for the betterment of our children and society.

Remember, society NEEDS teachers in order to thrive and function.

Don't be blind. The truth shall set you free.
